Who We Are

Since their formation in 1961, the Scottsdale Charros, an all-volunteer group of business and civic leaders, have been dedicated to supporting youth programs, educational scholarships, and local charities through innovative fundraising efforts.

For more than 60 years, the Charros have hosted Spring Training Baseball at historic Scottsdale Stadium. Each March, over 200,000 fans flock to Scottsdale Stadium, solidifying it as a premier destination for Spring Training Baseball and a significant economic driver for Old Town Scottsdale and fundraising opportunity for the Charros.

Using the funds generated from Charro Lodge passes, stadium advertising, and program advertising, the Charros provide essential funding to more than 100 local charities and all 30 public schools in Scottsdale. The Charros partnership with the City of Scottsdale, Major League Baseball, and the San Francisco Giants has resulted in over $21 million donated to local charities and Scottsdale public education, establishing the Charros as one of Scottsdale’s largest philanthropic contributors.

History of Scottsdale Charros Spring Training Baseball

1955: Scottsdale Stadium was constructed with private funds raised by the Scottsdale Baseball Club as a venue for Major League Baseball spring training teams.

1956: The Baltimore Orioles became the first team to hold Spring Training Baseball games at the new Scottsdale Stadium.

1959: The Boston Red Sox replaced the Baltimore Orioles as the home team for Spring Training baseball at Scottsdale Stadium.

1961: The Scottsdale Charros formed during a meeting at Hotel Valley Ho as a special activity affiliate of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce.

1967: After one season without a Spring Training team, Scottsdale Stadium welcomed the Chicago Cubs who stayed for 12 seasons.

1979: Scottsdale Stadium welcomed the Oakland A’s as the Spring Training home team, playing for three seasons.

1982: The San Francisco Giants replaced the Oakland A’s as Scottsdale’s home team for Spring Training, beginning a decades-long relationship with the Giants, the Charros, and their fans.

1991-92: The vintage wooden Scottsdale Stadium was torn down and rebuilt to meet the growing needs of Major League Baseball and for use by the Arizona Fall League and special events.

2005: With a $23 million upgrade made to Scottsdale Stadium, the Charros, the San Francisco Giants, and the City of Scottsdale agreed to continue their partnership through 2025.

Present: Scottsdale Charros continue to host Spring Training Baseball for the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale Stadium where they raise essential funding to more than 100 local charities and all 30 public schools in Scottsdale.
